Aqua Ohio Water Tank on Johnnycake Ridge Road

The project will help preserve water quality and extend the tower’s useful life

Aqua is announcing plans to renovate their 1 million gallon water tower located at 9727 Johnnycake Ridge Road. The $600,000 project involves draining, sandblasting, minor repairs and repainting the tower over the next few months.

“It’s important that we regularly inspect, repaint and repair our towers to preserve water quality and get as many years of service as possible from our infrastructure investment,” said Aqua Ohio’s Area Manager Bill Bowers. “This tower is a critical part of our system, not only does it provide storage for a million gallons of treated water, but it helps regulate pressure in the area.”

Work is expected to begin this week. Crews will start by conducting some exterior maintenance then cover the tower with a containment tent to minimize dust in the area. They will be sandblasting all interior and exterior surfaces and repainting using a special epoxy paint.

Work is expected to be conducted Monday through Friday between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm through June. Plans have been made to avoid noisy activities during early morning hours to help minimize disruptions to neighbors.

Water pressure will be maintained by using high service pumps. Customers should not notice any changes in their water quality during the project, though some pressure variations are possible. The quality of the water will not be affected and will continue to meet all federal and state water quality standards.

American Suncraft Painting Company of Medway, Ohio was selected to perform the specialized work. Bowers said that the $600,000 project is just part of the $7 million that Aqua plans to invest locally and $57 million across the company’s 35 Ohio systems in 2023.
