Mentor’s newest local coffee shop promises to be your new morning pick-me-up. From a bountiful collection of coffee roasts and tea drinks to its wide variety of local bakery items, Calico Jack will surely cover all your sweet morning cravings.
Themed around a kid-friendly pirate cat, Calico Jack is owned and founded by loving couple Chris and Charisse Barbian, and their nephew Austin Barbian. While Calico Jack is their first brick-and-mortar location, they have been creating unique coffee roasts and selling them to subscribers and smaller businesses since 2018.
“All of our roasts are profiled very delicately and intricately. It’s definitely a hobby that turned into a very interesting, fun business.”
Lakeshore Coffee Company originally resided where Calico Jack now stands. If you enjoyed their coffee roasts, you would find that Calico Jack will taste equally delicious. This is because the Barbians created Lakeshore’s roast and they have decided to keep using the same roast due to its positive feedback from loyal Lakeshore coffee lovers.
While they have not been open long, there has been a high demand for their cake batter latte and matcha tea. All their coffee syrups are homemade and carefully created fresh each week. Every product they use and sell is carefully chosen. They value high quality products and supporting local businesses over anything cheap or processed.
“We always try to search for the organic and small farms, if possible, when we’re going to buy.”
They have partnered with local businesses such as JT’s Bagel’s, Bakery on the Main, Say it with a Pop, Magically Made Cookies, and Banana Bliss in order to provide fresh breads and pastries for their customers. Gluten free treats are also available.
At Calico Jack, you will find a warm, welcoming place to sit with friends and family. Books and games are available for use, and costumers are valued like no other. The Barbian’s hearts are focused to serve people.
