Park goers may have noticed the new outdoor exercise stations that have been placed near the pickleball courts at Mentor Civic Center Park.
The machines, which utilize the user bodyweight, offer a full-circuit workout with space for up to 20 people at any given time.
The apparatus was installed to enhance wellness opportunities – especially for our senior population. The location was chosen due to its ease of accessibility by those who walk the multi-use path, swimming pool, playground, and pickleball courts.
According to Parks & Recreation Director, Kenn Kaminski, the feedback has been excellent, “The equipment is used continuously and has been truly appreciated. Many of the people who are using the trail and playing pickleball use the equipment daily. We are very excited about the positive feedback.”
The stations were installed at a cost of $48,845.10, $28,781.00 of which was covered by an Ohio Department of Natural Resources Nature Works Grant. The city matched with a $20,064.10 contribution. The equipment is expected to have a useful lifespan of 20 years.
Although there are no immediate plans to add similar features to other locations, the city will monitor usage and keep it in consideration for the future.
Mentor Civic Center Park is located at 8500 Munson Road.
