Mentor Fire Department Public Education Specialist Rollin Pachinger

The Mentor Fire Department has named firefighter/paramedic Rollin Pachinger as their new public education specialist. Pachinger will take over for firefighter/paramedic Jerry Craddock who retired from the department in 2021.

Pachinger is a lifelong resident and 2012 graduate of Mentor High School whose family has a legacy of public service in the city. His great-grandfather, grandfather, and great uncle were members of the department, while his father and uncle worked in the public works department.

“Growing up around my grandfather who shared his love with this profession, made me realize at a very young age this is what I wanted to do,” says Pachinger.

Pachinger joined the Mentor Fire Department in 2013 as a part timer firefighter/paramedic. In 2015, he began his fulltime career with the city of Independence, which he left in 2019 work full-time for Mentor.  He is currently part of the Mentor Technical Rescue Team and is a youth firesetter intervention specialist for the department. He was awarded the Lake County Blue Coats award in 2013 and a Life Saving award in 2016.

“One of the most important part of every firefighter’s job is work to keep our community safe and partnering with our community to reduce harm improves the overall wellness of our community,” says Mentor Fire Chief Bob Searles, “Rollin not only understands how vital this role is, he has a passion for caring for others and for service to the community. Perhaps, that just runs in his  family.”

The Public Education division of the Mentor Fire Department assists the general public with training and safety information. Besides providing first aid, CPR, AED, and fire extinguisher classes for individuals and businesses in the city, educators also visit the schools with fire and injury prevention classes.

“My goal is to educate and provide as much assistance as possible to residents and businesses that call Mentor home,” says Pachinger.
