Stream Dumping

The leaves will be falling before we know it! Soon there will be no more bagging of leaves, clippings, or brush. When conducting fall cleanup, please remember to properly dispose of yard waste

Even though it may be tempting to dump your yard waste at the banks of a nearby stream, down a ravine, or leave along a storm sewer; this is considered storm water pollution.

When yard waste breaks down, it depletes the water of oxygen and causes organisms – including fish and aquatic insects – to die off.

Yard waste contains a large amount of nutrients, which can also lead to the increased growth of algae in our waterways. Algae can too consume all the oxygen in the water and cause foul odors.

When cutting the grass, use a mulching mower to leave the grass clippings on your lawn and put nutrients back into the soil. We can all do our part to keep Mentor’s waterways clean.
