Lake County residents –and beyond – will be reminded to drive sober this holiday season as the 28th Annual Protect & Serve Tavern takes place Saturday, December 9, 2023, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Great Lakes Mall.
Local police chiefs and judges will hand out non-alcoholic drinks and snacks to mall-shoppers. Local police departments will also invite shoppers to try the “Fatal Vision” goggle activity, which mimics alcohol impairment and raises awareness of the dangers of drunk driving.
Free recipes featuring tasty non-alcoholic beverages created by the Lake County police departments will be available, and there will be a raffle for a chance to win a “mocktail” basket with all the fixings to make your own non-alcoholic beverages.
All are reminded that it’s important to plan a safe way home before any party begins.
- Before drinking, designate a sober driver.
- If you are impaired, take a taxi, rideshare, or call a sober friend or family member for a ride home.
- If you happen to see an impaired driver on the road, call #667 to reach law enforcement.
This event is presented by the Lake County Crime Prevention Taskforce, the Lake County Association of Chiefs of Police and the Lake County Safe Communities Coalition will team up with the United States Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The Great Lakes Mall is located at 7850 Mentor Avenue in Mentor.
