A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Springbrook Gardens Park as work commences on a new 4,400 square foot all-season pavilion.
Members of Mentor City Council, administration, and other local elected officials will be on hand to mark the occasion.
The pavilion is being constructed at a cost of $1.8 million and will contain a warming kitchen, interior/exterior restrooms, and a larger multi-purpose area. Other amenities will include a wood burning fireplace and an outdoor seating area with a pergola. The project is managed by Zerbe Construction.
In 2015, the City of Mentor purchased the 53-acre Springbrook Gardens nursery from the Schultz family for $2.5 million in order to preserve the space and create a predominantly passive-use park. Since then, approximately $7.3 million has been invested in the city’s newest park for improvements which include regrading and soil enrichment of the entire property, planting of native flora, expansion of the pond, construction of a boardwalk and 1.7 miles of paved multi-use trails, as well as restoration of a channelized stream which flows through the property. A playground is also currently under construction and should be complete by early-August.
Springbrook Gardens Park is located at 6776 Heisley Road in the City of Mentor.
