Whitetail deer significantly impact the environment and the diversity of understory plants in Mentor. Maintaining a healthy deer population supports numerous other plant and animal species in the area.

Since 2012, the city has implemented an annual deer management program to reduce accidents and property damage while enhancing the overall health of the herd.

Program goals are guided by data from road surveys, vegetation surveys, camera monitoring, and aerial surveys, which provide an accurate depiction of herd distribution and density.

Resident feedback is another vital tool, helping our natural resources specialists gain a clearer understanding of where deer-related issues (or non-issues) occur in our community. Please take a moment to complete a brief survey with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and assist in this effort.
