Mentor Village Hall served as the seat of village government from 1888 until 1963. With the merger of the village and the township, it became known as Mentor City Hall.

City leaders got to work almost immediately, seeking a location and design for a new complex that would better serve our growing community. A number of concepts were considered before construction on the final design began in 1975.

Old Mentor City Hall was closed on Friday, March 19, 1976 so employees could pack their things and move into the brand new Mentor Municipal Center. They were open for business the following Monday. The first City Council meeting was held on April 6, 1976.

The building was described as a “model of 20th century efficiency,” with “a lobby designed to accommodate exhibits and displays of community interest” – a role it still plays today by hosting art exhibits and other public gatherings.

As the city grew, so did the complex with several additions made over the years, including the police station, courthouse, and a major expansion in 1997.

Fifty years after opening its doors, the Mentor Municipal Center continues to serve residents and businesses in our community.
