Center Street Overpass

Update 1: February 8, 2023

Beginning the week of February 13, 2023, daily northbound lane closures will take place between the hours of 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM to prepare the bridge for the first phase of reconstruction which is scheduled to begin in early March.  During this time portions of the curbing and sidewalk will be removed to allow for the proposed lane shift during the first construction phase. Work is anticipated to last for approximately 2 weeks.

The  detour for the first phase of construction is expected to be implemented in mid to late March.  The posted detour route will be SR 2 to SR 306 to Mentor Avenue.

Motorists are advised that replacement of the bridge deck on the Center Street (SR 615) railroad overpass will be proceeding as scheduled later this winter.

Preliminary activity is estimated to begin in mid-to-late February with a project start of early March. The bridge will be closed to southbound traffic through the duration of the project with the exception of emergency vehicles, which will be able to access the bridge via a pre-emption signal. Two lanes of northbound traffic will be maintained throughout the project.

The overpass was originally constructed in 1972 with full-depth repairs conducted in 1990. The $6.9 million project was funded through federal (80%) and state (20%) funds. Local funds were also provided for decorative lighting upgrades.

The project is scheduled for completion in October 2024.
