Have you ever wondered what Mentor might have looked like in the 19th century?
We were doing some historical research and came across a Lake & Geauga County Tract Map from 1857.
The original map is available for download from the Library of Congress. We’ve cropped the Mentor section and also created a copy with a superimposed 2016 street map so you can find your neighborhood in relation to the tracts from that period.

Please bear in mind that the original map was hand drawn so some items don’t exactly match up. Shoreline erosion is another variable you’ll notice.
All in all, we hope you agree this is an interesting look at Mentor’s past.
