Mentor City SealThe unemployment rate for the City of Mentor increases 2.1% to 6.3% for the month of March 2020.  One year ago, the unemployment rate was 3.7%.  In Lake County, the unemployment rate increases at the same rate of 2.1% to 7.1% for the month of March; one year ago, it was 4.1%. These March figures show the first significant impact of the COVID-19 economic crisis on employment figures for the City of Mentor.

The City of Mentor’s unemployment rate is the third lowest among cities in Ohio with a population of 50,000 or more. Columbus has the lowest unemployment rate at 4.3% with Kettering second at 4.5% and Cincinnati third at 4.9%; following is fourth Cuyahoga Falls 5.2%, fifth Hamilton 5.4%, sixth Lakewood 5.8%, seventh Dayton 5.9%, Mentor and Cleveland Heights tie at ninth with 6.3%. The City’s civilian labor force decreased from 26,700 to 25,800.

The State of Ohio’s unemployment rate increases 0.9% to 5.6% for the month of March.
