On Friday, May 12, 2023, at 1:12 AM, Mentor Police responded to a report of a two car accident on SR-2 eastbound near SR-306.
A 21-year-old male, Noah Smith, from Mentor was driving a 2009 Jeep Liberty in the center lane and was rear ended by a 35-year-old male, Rahul Patel, from Kirtland driving a 2019 BMW 540 at a very high rate of speed.
The driver of the BMW was ejected from the vehicle. He was life flighted to Metro Hospital. The driver of the Jeep was taken by Mentor Rescue to Hillcrest Hospital with serious injuries.
SR-2 eastbound was closed at SR-306 was closed for approximately 7 hours while Mentor Police investigated the crash, and the debris was cleared from the road.
It is unknown if alcohol was a factor and the crash remains under investigation.
No additional information is being released at this time.
