Happy 60th birthday, Mentor!
Mentor was first settled in 1797 by Charles Parker, a member of Moses Cleaveland’s survey team. It became a township in 1815 and the township center became Mentor Village in 1855. Mentor officially became a city on December 18, 1963. We’ve come a long way since then. Here are some key events from that year.

- The first touch-tone telephone introduced by AT&T.
- “Oh I wish I was an Oscar Meyer wiener” jingle debuted.
- First successful lung transplant performed by Dr. James Hardy.
- The Cleveland Browns finished 10-4.
- Cleopatra was the biggest draw at the box office,
grossing $57 million
