Council on Aging to raise funds for Meals on Wheels

The Lake County Council on Aging (LCCoA) has announced that its annual fundraiser, “March for Meals” will take place on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at the Great Lakes Mall in Mentor.  March for Meals is a month-long, nationwide celebration of “Meal on Wheels” and the essential service it provides our senior neighbors to remain healthy and independent at home.

We continue to experience an increase in the demand for our services throughout Lake County,” said Joe Tomsick, CEO of the Council on Aging. “Specifically, we saw almost a 3% increase in the number of seniors receiving Meals on Wheels.  Of course the meal is important, but the daily visit provides a means for Council on Aging to check on those seniors who are frail or may be at risk.”

The Food Court doors open at 8:00am for registration and the event runs until 10:00am.  Funds raised are used to support five nutrition sites in Lake County serving Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors.  “At times, a visit from a meals on wheels volunteer is the only social interaction that senior gets on a regular basis,” said Tomsick.

Individuals can participate in the event as a walker or online supporter of the Lake County Council on Aging’s nutrition programs.  The agency has a special website that has been set up to make registration very simple and also give you the opportunity to purchase chances for several valuable baskets that will be drawn on March 31st.   Visit march4meals.org for all the details on how you can register as a walker, create a walk team, or purchase raffle basket tickets.  The walker fee is $15 for adults; $5 for children 12 and under.  Light morning snacks and coffee will be provided at the food court on the day of the event, and there will be several additional baskets drawn live on March 18th.

The top sponsor of the event is the Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging and they are joined by over  70 other incredible monetary and in-kind sponsors!  “We have been in awe of the outpouring of support so far, and hope others will get involved in raising funds for this vital lifeline we call meals on wheels.”
